The Sea Diver is an aquatic ANMC that fights best in water and the area that it is fought is quite small, but manageable. This is the only optional boss of Parasite Eve II and is a massive Diver. It is highly recommended to fight it to receive the Skull Crystal which increases weapon attack power by 20% when attached.
To access the boss, see Pyramid Puzzle.
Unlike other boss fights, there is a bit of a warm up. Five smaller Bog Divers will surface in tank, a couple at a time to attack the player. After all of them have been defeated, a cut scene will occur showing the entry of the Sea Diver.
Once it surfaces, it will immediately attack Aya. Unlike the smaller versions which launch smaller electric projectiles, this one attacks with a larger steam of electrical current, similar to the Burner's flamethrower attack. It can evaded by running around the room (while turning to avoid slowdowns). Grenades can interrupt a diver's attack while all shotguns (and ammo), MM1 with Airburst and POISON effect can change the angle of the electric attack so it does not hit Aya. Most spells (Pyrokinesis and Energyball, for instance) can knock the head back, but with their charge times are less reliable for avoiding damage.
Fire does 200% damage: Pyrokinesis, Combustion and Inferno will do 3 times their base damage with the Ofuda attached. Firefly ammo and M4A1 Pyke are also quite effective. Necrosis at level 3 with a bit of patience can be devastating given it slices off about 1/3 of it's HP after doing as much POISON damage as possible, even at higher difficulties. On Nightmare Mode, a few extra rounds from the player's gun will be needed to finish it off.
Given that the diver sits in the middle of a pool, melee weapons are not recommended, given their poor reach (though Gunblade melee far less trouble hitting it)
On occasion it will submerge and most attacks will be unable to hit it. However, Pyrokinesis Lv.3, Necrosis Lv.3 and AS12 with Buckshot ammo can manage, given their large damage radius touches below the floor.
When it is defeated (which is not too hard), checking its decomposing body will yield the Skull Crystal. This will increases weapon attack damage by 20% when attached, so it is highly recommend the player search the pool. Also, when it is attached with the Ofuda (increases attack by 50%) and Holy Water (reduces damage by 25%), this makes Aya powerful.
According to Aya, its liquefied remains smelled strongly of lemons.
- The BradyGames strategy guide incorrectly lists its name as Gray Stalker and includes a picture of the Bog Diver instead of the Sea Diver. Even in the bestiary, it still features an image of the Bog Diver.
- The Skull Crystal is a limited time item and should be picked up before leaving the room (Basically the room's battle ID is set from 1 to 4 after the boss is defeated (4 being when you can examine the pool for the Skull Crystal) and will set to 2 after the Beta Generator has been defeated).
